2020 / 2021 Academic Year Begins Across Ukraine

The 2020 / 2021 Academic year commences across Ukraine today, September 1st 2020.

All primary / secondary schools, colleges and higher institutions resume full academic activities for the 2020 academic year.

To contain the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, without disrupting the academic calendar, the Ukrainian government set out some measures to ensure the safety of both students and teachers.

These measures make it mandatory for both teachers and students to use face masks, observe social distancing, and have hand sanitizers in classrooms. Temperatures are also to be regularly checked to observe early symptoms and take immediate actions.

Regular physical class attendances will continue for primary / secondary school pupils, while students of universities and other higher education institutions will be combining both online lectures and physical attendances, as part of measures to contain the spread of COVID-19.

According to the Ukrainian Prime Minister, Denys Shmyhal, regions that fall within the red zone will continue education activities only via online.

In the other regions, studies could be in the classroom, online or even from home. According to the Prime Minister, parents have the power to decide which option to choose for their kid(s).

Meanwhile, admission still continues for international students that plan to study in Ukraine for the 2020 / 2021 academic year and will continue till 15th October 2020 for the Main admission year, after which the winter admission season will begin.

The prolonged quarantine and travel restrictions to Ukraine, which will last from August 27th till October 31st will not affect international students with a temporary or permanent residence permit in Ukraine.

We wish all the students and teachers a productive academic year ahead.
